Lexington Battles Highly Touted Red Raiders On The Gridiron

Taking advantage of miscues, the Sidney Red Raiders were able to score a 49-7 victory over Lexington in the season opening battle on the gridiron on Friday evening in Sidney. 
After a pair of miscues resulted in safeties, the Red Raiders got a big sway of momentum when Cody Haas returned the kickoff 70-yards to paydirt to increase the Sidney lead to 11-0 during the first quarter of play. 
Sidney was soon within range to score again before the end of the first quarter. The Lexington defense stood strong and forced a field goal be attempted. The Red Raiders were able to cash in on the opportunity when Jon Smith split the uprights with a 32-yard field goal to extend the Sidney lead to 14-0 just before the horn sounded on the first quarter of play. 
During their first drive of the second quarter, the Lexington offense was able to put together a sustained drive that resulted in rave reviews as Javier Rivas powered into the endzone on a four-ayrd run. Armando Guido booted the extra point to make the score 14-7 with 9:25 left to play before the halftime break. 
The Sidney offense responded with a Cade Lewis one-yard run to push the Raiders lead back to 21-7 with 5:02 left before half. 
For much of the final five minutes of the first half, the defensive intensity of the Minutemen stood strong until Cade Lewis rumbled into the endzone for his second score of the contest on an eight-yard run with just 0:43 left before the halftime break. 
Sidney was able to score in the third quarter on a Derek Robb one-yard run that was followed by a pair of rushing scores in the fourth quarter to net the Raiders a 49-7 victory.
Dual-threat quarterback Clay Hernandez led the Lexington offense with 105 yards passing and 49 yards rushing.  
Javier Rivas and Emmanuel Perez chipped in with 44 and 32 yards rushing for the Minutemen offense.
