Lady Swedes Win Defensive Thriller Over McCook Cagers

Playing with gumption, the Lady Swedes scored an early lead and secured a 36-34 win over host McCook in Tuesday evening hoops action.
Hitting the door running, the Gothenburg offense rang the bell to the tune of a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. 
During the second stanza, the Lady Bison had a stampede on both ends of the floor and outscored Gothenburg 12-4 to then lead by one-point, 19-18 at the halftime break. 
The scoring efforts were at a premium throughout much of the third quarter of play. The visiting Lady Swedes were able to hold the edge on the scoreboard when the horn sounded. Gothenburg had regained the lead, and held a three-point edge, 28-25 with just one quarter remaining in regulation. 
The defensive efforts stood even stronger than they had in the past eight minutes during the fourth quarter of play, with Gothenburg and McCook putting their best foot forward in hopes of garnering the pendulum swing of momentum. 
The host Lady Bison were able to out score Gothenburg 9-8 during the period but it wasn’t enough in the end, as the Lady Swedes scored the 36-34 victory. 
Gothenburg was led by the efforts of Gracie Stienike with a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds. 
McKenna Peterson flexed the net for 11 points.
