Nine Lettermen Return To Lead Haymaker Matmen

The current Haymakers wrestling squad is battle-tested as the youngsters that fill the lineup have been baptized under fire against some of the best wrestlers. All of the prior experiences and knowledge gained has the potential to lead to another great season on the mat for the Red and Black.
There are a pair of state qualifiers returning to the mat for the Haymakers.
Senior Zeke Derr has the potential to leave his mark on the storied Haymaker wrestling program. Derr has great strength and his experiences in the lower weights make him a dangerous opponent in the upperweights. Derr finished the 2016 season with a record of 31-11 and he has reached the ‘Big Daddy’ of them all, the State Championships before and should have the ability to repeat that feat this season.
Reaching the state tournament as a freshmen is a great accomplishment and Jace Russman looks to keep his string of success going in a positive direction. Russman has been around the Haymaker program for quite some time and totally understands what it takes to be among the greats that wore the threads of the Haymakers. Russman has great strength and uses it wisely in the lower weight classes. The added strength and experience will pay divdends for Russman this season.
Returning to the mat on a mission, Senior Cameron Griffis has the potential to achieve greatness this season. Griffis has been among the medalist in the middleweights and now that he is back from injury and has the experience on his side of a storied youth career on the mat, the sky is the limit for Griffis this season.
Blake Hoffmaster finished 26-18 as a freshmen in a tough weight class, the experience will pay dividends for him this season. Hoffmaster has the potential to be in the thick of the medal stand each meet this season.
Sophomores Fabian Chacon, Nathan Smock and Taylor Yancy along with Josh Stallbaumer have the potential to score valuable points for Cozad this season.
