Corene H (Hueftle) Beck, 93, a resident of Palmer Hills Independent Living Facility in Bettendorf, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa. Corene grew up in Eustis, Nebraska. After high school, she attended Nebraska School of Nursing. After graduation and with the start of WW II, Corene enlisted in the Navy and served as a nurse. While serving in San Diego, she met her future husband who was a patient.
She married Karl Beck in 1944 and moved to Davenport, Iowa where they worked in the family business, Becks Salad Dressing, until it was sold in 1960. In addition to helping out in the family business, she also was a recovery room nurse at the former St. Luke’s Hospital in Davenport. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved working outdoors, cooking and being married to Karl or “Big Boy”, as their friends knew him.
Corene was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Beck, in 1995 and her parents, Fred and Lydia Hueftle.
Surviving are her son, Tim (Sarah) of Bettendorf; sister, Miriam (Gene) of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Jessica Anthony (Chris) of Iowa City, Iowa, Jeff Beck (Erin) of Seattle, Washington, David Beck of Bettendorf; and grandson, Beck Wayne Anthony.
At Corene’s request, her body was donated to the University of Iowa for medical research. There will be no visitation and a private spreading of ashes will be conducted at a later date.
