Former Cozad Resident: Roger Schultz (1933-2016)
Funeral Services for Roger L. Schultz, 82, Norfolk, were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 27th, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Norfolk. Reverend Shelly Petz officated. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk. Military honors were conducted by the Nebraska Army National Guard Honor Guard, American Legion Post 16 and VFW Post 1644. Visitation was on Friday at Home for Funerals in Norfolk.
He passed away Wednesday, August 24th, 2016 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
Roger Lee was born on November 28th, 1933, on the family farm near Farnam, Nebraska to his parents Carl and Goldie (Cooley) Schultz. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in a one room school house. Roger’s father died when Roger was eleven years old, so Roger’s second oldest brother took over the farm and raised the younger siblings. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1951.
On June 13th, 1954, Roger married Betty Mitchell at the Methodist Church in Cozad. The couple lived in Tooele, Utah while Roger served in the United States Army as a military policeman. They returned to Cozad. In 1962, they moved to Norfolk, Nebraska, where Roger began his career with Allstate Insurance. He retired in April of 1997.
Roger was very proud of his family. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing and traveling. Roger was active in Kiwanis, the Elks, and the Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his children and their spouses – Greg and Patricia Schultz of Hastings, Nebraska, Mitchell and Karma Schultz of Norfolk, Shellie and Tim Otto of St. Paul, Minnesota and Scott and Cindy Schultz of Prairie Village, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Marlene Schultz of Los Angeles, California ; many nieces and nephews and dear friend Jan Ohlrich.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife Betty, parents, and four brothers and five sisters.
