Former Area Resident: Edward G. Schledewitz, 87 (1924-2012)

Edward G. Schledewitz, 87, of Kearney, Nebraska, died Thursday, July 12th at his residence.

Edward was born December 2nd, 1924, in Gering, Nebraska, to John and Mary (Weber) Schledewitz. He grew up and received his education in Lexington. He entered the Army on May 29th, 1945 and served during WWII. He was honorably discharged October 25th, 1946.  He was united into marriage to Leota Brandenberg on March 4th, 1950 in Lexington, Nebraska.

Edward farmed most of his life, first near Gothenburg, Nebraska and then moved his operation north of Axtell in 1967. The couple then retired to Kearney in 1990. Edward was a member of the American Legion Club in Gothenburg and the Elks Lodge in Kearney.

He is survived by his wife Leota Schledewitz of Kearney; sons, Edward J. Schledewitz and wife Gwen of Westminister, Colorado, William E. Schledewitz of Kearney; daughters Karen Cherniss and husband Jim of Napa, California and Jane Varwig of Kearney; three sisters; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by both parents; four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 18th, 2012, at the Evangelical Free Church in Kearney. Interment was at the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska.
