U.S. Army Veteran: Dick Buckley, age 85 (1927-2012)

Dick Buckley, 85, of Cozad, died Tuesday, April 24th, 2012, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood, Nebraska.

Dick was Born February 6th, 1927, south of Cozad, Nebraska, to Guy and Iva (Adamson) Buckley. Dick graduated from Cozad High School in 1944.
In September of 1950, Dick entered the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean War. Following his discharge in 1952, he returned to Cozad, where he farmed. On March 17th, 1953, Dick married Gladys P. Fenton at Omaha. The couple was blessed with three children, Patricia, Brent and Rod. The couple made their home southwest of Cozad near the Henderson Ranch. In 1955, the couple moved to the Buckley family farmstead, where they farmed and ranched. In addition to farming, Dick also enjoyed raising cattle. Every spring, he thoroughly enjoyed helping Karl and Eddie Hueftle move their cattle to pasture.

Dick was an active member of the rural fire department for over 40 years and had served as past president of the Cozad VFW. He enjoyed going to rodeos where he would even flag on occasion. Dick was a farmer by necessity, but a cowboy at heart. One of his favorite things to do was ride his mare through the hills on Sundays.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys in 2008; two infant sisters; three sisters, Margaret Kennedy, Arlene Muirhead and Doris Koch.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia (Bruce) Keiser of Colby, Kansas; two sons, Dr. Brent (Pam) Buckley of Kapolei, Hawaii and Rod (Dori Hollenbeck) Buckley of Winner, South Dakota; four grandsons, Nathan Keiser of Nevada, Missouri, Michael Keiser of Pratt, Kansas and Austin and Colin Buckley, both of Hawaii; best friend, John Yeutter of Eustis, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.

Services were held on Saturday, April 28th, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad with Pastor Mike Dennis officiating. Burial with military honors was in the Fairview Cemetery south of Cozad.
