Lexington Resident: Ruby E. Warner, age 89 (1923-2012)

Ruby E. Warner, 89, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Saturday, April 14th, 2012, at Park Avenue Estates in Lexington.

She was born March 9th, 1923, in Cairo, Nebraska, to O. Jay and Hazel Marie (Manners) Waddington. Ruby grew up in the Grand Island, Nebraska, area and graduated from Grand Island High School with the Class of 1941.

Ruby was married to Loren C. "Bud" Warner on May 1st, 1943, in Paso Robles, California, while Bud was in the service. The couple settled in Lexington in 1949. Ruby did clerical work for four different businesses during her working years; they were the ASCS Office, Home Federal Savings and Loan, the Credit Bureau and the Dawson County Clerk's office.

Ruby was active in and loved attending the Lexington Christian Church. She was involved in the Women's Circle and Council, she was a member of the Piecemaker's Quilting group from church and she found time to make diaper bags for the women's pregnancy center in Norfolk.  She was also a past member of Crime Stoppers, Neighborhood Watch and helped deliver Meals-On-Wheels to shut-ins.

When someone was ill or lost a loved one to death, Ruby was the first to show up with a meal and a kind word. She loved to sew and quilt, but being with her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her greatest joy.

Ruby is survived by one son, Michael (Linda) Warner of Lexington; one daughter, Patricia (Ned) Rakestrow of Grand Island, Nebraska; two sisters, Claire Levene of Grand Island and Arlene Graf of Grand Island; two brothers, Keith Waddington of Moore, Oklahoma and C.R. Waddington of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Connie (Tim) Prather of Lubbock, Texas, Jeremy Phillips of New York City, New York, Kristina (Scott) Shortle of Hyde Park, New York, Joseph (Rachelle) Warner of Minden, Nebraska, Kelli (Ben) Sander of Council Bluffs, Iowa; five great-grandchildren,  Rowan and Ivy Shortle and Alexa and Elijah Warner and Hayley Sander; son-in-law, David Phillips of Poughkeepsie, New York, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud in 1980; daughter, Alice Phillips in 2003; one sister, Bonnie Rust; two brothers-in-law, Roy Rust and Rex Rasmussen and two sisters-in-law, Helen Waddington and Dorothy Rasmussen.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 17th, 2012, at 11 a.m., at the Lexington Christian Church with Pastor K.C. BeDunnah officiating.  Burial was at 2:30 p.m., at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at Grand Island.
