Gothenburg Resident: Roy W. Houser, age 63 (1948-2012)

Roy Wesley Houser, 63, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died Saturday, April 7th, 2012, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, following a heart transplant operation.

He was born December 8th, 1948, in Eustis, Nebraska, to Elmer Lee and Ramona (Kirwin) Houser.

Roy attended school at Elwood, Nebraska. He was united in marriage to Nancy Young on January 15th, 1966, at Lexington, Nebraska, the marriage would later end in divorce and he then married Bonnie Trew on December 15th, 1979, in Lexington. Roy farmed for most of his career and was working for Hershey Flying Service when he had his first heart attack and later had to stop working for health reasons.

To say Roy had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tease is an understatement. He loved to tell jokes and stories and tease Bonnie. Family gatherings were some of his favorite times and he was very proud of all of his children and grandchildren. He loved to fish, be outdoors and was an overall great guy who touched many lives. Roy was excited about the chance to be healthy again by being accepted into the heart transplant program and although it did not work, he was able to give other's life by donating his organs to people in need.

Those left to mourn his memory are his wife, Bonnie Houser of Gothenburg; four sons, Monty and wife Beth Houser of Kearney, Nebraska, Micky and wife Jen Houser of Ogallala, Nebraska; David Trew of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Lee Houser of Kearney; 12 grandchildren; Asia Greguras, Ambrosia Houser, Levi Houser, Cassie Houser, Devan Vogel, Dakota Erpelding, Kalyn Houser, Colton Houser, Allison Houser, Alyssa Houser, Sierra Houser and Nina Houser; two great- grandchildren, Madisyn Houser and Reece Greguras; sister, Ona and husband Merle Sage of Lexington; sister-in-law, Carolyn (Houser) Evans of Lexington; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
