Timely hitting and a masterful performance on the mound was the formula for success as the Lexington Pinnacle Bank Juniors defeated Gothenburg at the Melon Patch on Tuesday evening.

Starting the contest with gumption, the Lexington bats were smoking hot out of the gates. Brody Lauby got on base to start the contest and would soon score on a Schuyler Salem RBI-single to centerfield. Tyson Block would earn a walk to put a pair of runners in scoring position. Catcher Morgan Ansbach would connect on a two-RBI single to centerfield to score Salem and Block, extending the Orange and Black lead to 3-0. Helping out his own cause, pitcher Logan Farrell hit into a putout, but it was enough for Ansbach to score from third base to give Lexington a 4-0 lead at the end of the first inning of play.

Gothenburg threatened in the second inning when Marcus Fritton earned a two-out walk, but it was Lexington’s Schuyler Salem that extinguished the threat with a clutch catch in centerfield that ended the inning.

The Lexington offense was back at it again, in the top of the third inning, when Tyson Block was walked and then circled the bases to score with precision base running to extend the Orange lead to 5-0 at the end of the third inning.

The Minutemen were able to add insurance to their lead with Tyson Block and Morgan Ansbach scoring on RBI-singles by Ansbach and Riley Stauffer in the fifth inning and then Lauby touched all four sacks to score on Salem’s RBI-singel in the top of the sixth to make the score 8-0.

Gothenburg would find the groove briefly at the dish in the bottom of the sixth inning, with Braeden Brundage getting on base via a hustle play and then scoring on Patrick Messersmith’s hard-hit ball that slipped past the second baseman to make the score 8-1 with just one inning remaining.

Supplying the firepower needed, Morgan Ansbach and Logan Farrell connected on a double and triple to go along with Brian McMahon’s hard to handle hit into leftfield to regain their nine-run lead on the scoreboard, 10-1 with just one half of an inning remaining.

With back-to-back singles off the bats of Radley Shaw and Dominic Long, the Melons were back in business. Shaw would score on a RBI scoring putout off the bat of Haydeny Hubbard to make the score 10-2, but that was all the longer the Gothenburg rally would be sustained.

Lexington hurler Logan Farrell went the distance on the mound, allowing just three hits and striking out eight batters.

Catcher Morgans Ansbach was 3-4 at the dish with a double and three RBI’s for the Orange.

Earning clutch hits for the Melons was Braeden Bundage, Radley Shaw and Dominic Long.
