Members of the Cozad City Council met on Monday, April 21st, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. in the City Office Building Council Chambers.
Ordinance No. 1452 increasing the electrical rates as recommended by the Board of Public Works passed the second reading.
Cozad resident Robert Devine expressed his concerns to the council about the rate increase. “My electricity bill some months costs more than my rent, Devine said.
Board of Public Works President Alan Clark told Devine that NPPD has raised rates and that the Tenneco plant keeps costing the City of Cozad money.
The third reading of the ordinance is scheduled for Monday, May 5th, 2014.
The council approved Mayor Nancy Meyer’s recommended appointments as follows:
• Business Improvement District No. 1: Alisha Schau and Erin Becker
• Baseball/Softball Committee: Heidi Bazata, Brian Bazata, Melissa Malcom, Brian Engel, Michaela Arndt and Bill Wilkinson.
An increase in the Business Improvement District No. 1 monthly fee from $5.00 to $10.00 was approved. The current fee has been in places since the B.I.D. was established in 1986.
Travis Munster, Big E’s, asked council members to approve the recommendation to the NLCC for special designated licenses for Big E’s for May 23, 2014 and June 20, 2014 at Natural Escapes, Inc. “Canvas and Cocktails” will be held at Natural Escapes from 5 p.m. – 1 a.m. on both dates. The recommendation was approved.
Council members approved the contract for services with Marvin Planning Consultants and authorized Mayor Meyer to sign the contract.
The updated version of Section 504 – Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 was adopted into the City of Cozad’s policies.
Wilson Public Library Director Laurie Yocom shared upcoming events at the library, including the summer reading program, “Fizz, Boom! Read!”. The program runs from June 2nd through July 3rd this year.
Special evening programs will begin on Friday, June 6th, 2014, with star gazing at the Cozad High School football field.
The next regularly scheduled meeting for the council will be on Monday, May 5th, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.
