Leroy G. Cote, 83, of Grand Island, Nebraska, formerly of Cozad, Nebraska, died Sunday, March 23rd, 2014, at his home.
Leroy was born May 23rd, 1930, in Winnebago, Nebraska, to Meddie and Emma (Girard) Cote.
He grew up in Jackson, Nebraska and graduated from Ponca High School in 1948. He played basketball was also was captain of the football team. He entered the United States Army in 1951, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He worked as a lineman for Knox Construction, where he worked for over 30 years before starting his own power line company.
Leroy was united in marriage to Josephine Katherine Budd at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cozad on February 27th, 1954.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the VFW, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing, boating and water skiing, square dancing, going to YMCA, playing with his kids and grandkids, and traveling with his family.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife: Josephine Cote; children: Bryan and Teresa Sandquist of Omaha, Nebraska; Kirk and Kelli Cote of Arvada, Colorado; Meddie and Joyce Cote of Cozad, Leroy, Jr. and Jane Cote of Grand Island, Nebraska; Bob and Mary Singkofer of Saint Paul, Nebraska, Kim and Diana McDonald of Grand Island; 26 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Additional survivors include brother: Arsene and Betty Cote of Sedalia, Missouri and sister-in-law: Joan Cote of Sioux City, Iowa.
Leroy was preceded in death by son: Timothy Cote, three brothers; and one sister.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26th, 2014, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. Father Todd Philipsen officiated. Burial followed at the Cozad Cemetery with committal by Father O’Brien.
