TRIBUNE-Area Shines At Nebraska State Cheer & Dance Championships
The Cozad, Gothenburg and Lexington cheer and dance teams put their best to the test while competing in the 2017 Nebraska State Cheer and Dance Championships held in Grand Island on Friday and Saturday.
For the third consecutive year, the Cozad Cheerleaders claimed the crown in the Non-Tumbling C1 Cheer division with a score of 91.83. “The girls are so talented try to incorporate our unique style into every performance they do,” stated Cozad Cheer Coach Karen Klein.
Auburn was a close second to the Lady Haymakers with a score of 90.2.
Gothenburg’s cheerleaders were 11th overall with a score of 71.03 in the Non-Tumbling C1 division and then fourth overall in the Game Day Cheer C1 Division with a score of 68.88 as they edged past Louisville’s score of 68.2.
The Cozad Jazz Dance Team put their best foot forward and dazzled their way to a fifth place finish in the Hip Hop Dance C1 Division with a score of 71.67 and less than four points out of third place overall.
The Lexington High School Liberty Belles had outstanding performances for the large crowd in attendance as they were fifth overall with a score of 69.17 in the High Kick dance routine for Class B teams. The competition was very tight, as the victor was Scottsbluff with a score of 71.83 to show that the top five were within three points. The Belles were eighth overall with their Hip Hop Routine.
The Lexington cheerleaders were among the elite in Class B with a 12th place finish in Non-Tumbling Class B Cheer routine and an eighth place finish in the Game Day Class B routine division.
