Evelyn L. Leggott, 97, of Elwood, Nebraska, died on September 28th, 2013, at the Elwood Care Center.
Evelyn was born August 10th, 1916, in Gosper County, Nebraska, to Fred and Nettie (Cook) Walston.Their home was in the middle of what became Johnson Lake. She attended a rural grade school and graduated from Elwood High School 1935.
On July 18th, 1941, Evelyn married Vaugn Leggott. Their union was blessed with three daughters, Karen (John) Swedberg, Jo (David) Faux and Cyrese (Paul) Lingard.
Evelyn attended Kearney State College and went on to teach school for four years.
Evelyn’s faith was very important to her and she accepted Christ as her personal Savior on March 11th, 1934. She, Vaugn, Karen and Jo were all charter members of the Parkview Baptist Church in Lexington. She was active in her church, and taught Sunday school for many years. She also was in Tops and Gideons together with Vaugn, 4-H and Home Builders and several other neighborhood clubs. She was an excellent seamstress and an avid gardener. Evelyn especially loved growing flowers and was even able to continue her hobby at the Elwood Care Center. She was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of over 64 years, Vaugn in 2006; her parents and her three siblings, Kenneth and Gene Walston and sister, Beulah Sharp.
Survivors include her three daughters: Karen (John) Swedberg of Brazil; Jo (David) Faux of Hermiston, Oregon; Cyrese (Paul) Lingard of Boise, Idaho; nine grandsons, four great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter, one great-great-granddaughter, sister-in-law, Doris Baisinger from Kenesaw; six nieces and two nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 5th, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Parkview Baptist Church in Lexington, Nebraska.
Burial will be in the Elwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Parkview Baptist Church in Lexington.
A memorial has been established in her memory.
