Verlynn (Lynn) Eileen Griffis Thunberg, 86, of Cozad, Nebraska, died August 7th, 2013, at 2 a.m.
She was born on a Cozad, farm on March 3rd, 1927, to Milo and Ila (Batie) Griffis.
She attended rural school for her elementary education and graduated from Cozad High School in Cozad. Upon graduation, she taught in several local rural schools, having as many as 32 students in eight different grades at a time.
While attending Kearney State Teachers College she met Oscar Thunberg, who she later married on August 14th, 1949.
Verlynn taught Sunday School and worked for Avon for over 15 years. She was a friendly neighbor and her friendship was treasured by many.
Her personality drew people in, making them feel very comfortable and at home while talking with her. She was a great conversationalist and a real charismatic person with a warm heart. Her laugh and smile were contagious and her unique, quirky sense of humor often had her entire family and friends in tears.
She always put her family first and was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her smiling eyes remain in our hearts.
Verlynn was preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers, Dale, Elton and Elmo.
She is survived by her husband, Oscar and three children: Douglas; Larry (Deborah) and Lisa (Troy). She is also survived by her only granddaughter Sophie Thunberg.
A memorial service to celebrate Verlynn’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 16th at Swan-Law Cascade Chapel at 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, with an eventual internment at Ft. Logan cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
