Former Cozad Resident: Jerry X. McCarthy, age 66 (1946-2013)

Jerry X. McCarthy, 66, of Buxton Oregon, formerly of Cozad, Nebraska, died on Monday, March 11th, 2013, after a lengthy illness at Buxton.

Jerry was born on March 14th, 1946, in Broken Bow, Nebraska. He was one of eight children born to Cornelius J. and Frances E. (Mohatt) McCarthy. He was raised on the family farm in Cozad, Nebraska and it was here he attended school and graduated with the class of 1964.

He served his country for three years in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1967.

Jerry met his future wife, Patricia “Pat” Guinn while in the service. They courted for about one year and they were married on October 19th, 1967, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Following their marriage they made their home in Buxton until 1984 when they moved to Tiffan, Ohio and later on settled in Dover, Ohio. In 2008 they both moved back to Buxton where they lived since.

He was a welding supervisor and had worked for Petty Bone, Co. in Portland and then on into Ohio. Later in life he was a contractor for Contract Services Unlimited in Ohio. Jerry was forced to retire due to his illness in 2006.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. He was also an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching races while living in Ohio. He was an accomplished dancer, liked to garden and farm and loved spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: Tom and Neil McCarthy and Janet MonDragon.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pat; three children and their spouses, Jerry and Lisa McCarthy of Galloway, Ohio, Jeff and Debbie McCarthy of Dallas, Oregon, Jammie and Mark Cameron of New Philadelphia, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Twila McCarthy of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Rose Mary McCarthy of Omaha, Nebraska; four siblings and their spouses, Mary and Harley Nichelson of Eustis, Nebraska, Joe and Margie McCarthy of Ankney, Iowa, Pat and Tom Thomas of Olympia, Washington, John and Bonnie McCarthy of Lipan, Texas and nine grandchildren, a host of friends and relatives and will be missed dearly by them all.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 16th at the Christian Praise Center in Cornelius, Oregon, with Pastor Dwayne Timmons officiating.
Burial was in the Buxton Cemetery, Buxton, Oregon.
