Long-Time Area Resident: Esther Murdock, age 95 (1917-2012)

Esther Elizabeth Murdock, 95, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Tuesday, November 6th, 2012, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.

Esther was born January 17th, 1917, in Lexington to John and Jane (Powell) Haworth. She attended primary school in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1935. Following graduation, she worked for Stewart's Pharmacy, Reutlinger's Variety Store, and Hellman's for several years.

She was united in marriage to Otto C. Murdock on August 30th, 1945, in Norton, Kansas.
Esther was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle, reading, visits from family and friends and going to the movies.

She is survived by one son: Ronald Murdock of Bangkok, Thailand; one daughter, Susan Murdock of Lexington; two step-sons, Mike Murdock of Norwich, Kansas and Tim Ogden of Lexington; one sister, Ruth Granger of Roswell, Georgia and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otto; son, Robert; two brothers, Howard and Vern; two sisters, Vesta Carlsen and Gayle Wenburg and one step-daughter, Pat Deal.

The family has honored Esther's wishes for cremation. There will be no visitation.
A Memorial Graveside Inurnment service will be held at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington with Reverend Tess Hufford officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Community Foundation for the Otto and Esther Murdock Scholarship Fund.
