Memorial Established: Martin R. Achterber, age 89 (1923-2012)

Martin R. Achterberg, 89, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Thursday, October 4th, 2012, at Park Avenue Estates in Lexington.

He was born February 18th, 1923, south of Oconto, Nebraska, on the home place to Carl and Ida (Camin) Achterberg. He attended school at rural District #217. Martin was married to Bonny Estergard on April 12th, 1956, at First Lutheran Church at Buffalo.

The couple farmed near Oconto until 2006, when they moved to Park Avenue Estates in Lexington. Martin enjoyed his life on the farm, planting the seeds in the spring and harvesting in the fall.
Martin, as we grew older, looked forward to rides in the country and keeping track of the corn each season. Martin was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church at Buffalo.

Survivors include one brother: Melvin Achterberg of Oconto, Nebraska, one sister-in-law: Mary Achterberg of Amherst, Nebraska, three nephews: Dale (Cinda) Hladky of Cozad, Nebraska, Larry (Shelly) Achterberg of Amherst, Nebraska and Jason Achterberg of Amherst, Nebraska, two nieces: Sue (Leonard) May of Lexington, Nebraska and Cleone Flandermayer of Evansville, Indiana, as well as numerous grand-nephews and grand-nieces, extended family and friends.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonny; four brothers, Herman, Walter, Ben and John and three sisters, Martha Winters, Lena Hladky and Anna Bihr.

Funeral Services were held Monday, October 8th, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church at Buffalo with Reverend Victor Rasmussen officiating. Burial was in Christ Lutheran Cemetery near Oconto, Nebraska.
