Eskridge was arrested in Lexington early Monday
Pershing school closed

     A man was shot in the stomach and a hostage situation followed during an early Monday morning incident at a residence at 1202 North Monroe Street in Lexington.
     Officers from the Lexington Police Department responded to the scene about 4 a.m., the unidentified man who was shot was taken to the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington. Two other people who were in the house at the time of the incident were taken to another safe location.
     After a stand-off with the Lexington Police Department, the Dawson County Sheriff's Department and Nebraska State Patrol S.W.A.T. team, 38-year old Daryl Eskridge of Lexington was arrested and taken into custody about 8 a.m. He was taken to the Dawson County Law Enforcement Center and later charged with attempted murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
     During the commotion, people in nearby homes were evacuated and the Pershing Elementary School was closed as a safety precaution. The incident is under investigation.
